The Story

Where We Come From

Some legacies are not written in books.

They are folded carefully into saree cupboards, carried across generations, and remembered through touch, colour, and craft.

Weaves by ADVAYA was born from that belief.

For us, sarees have never been mere garments. They have always been repositories of memory — carrying stories of family celebrations, temple visits, weddings, festivals, milestones, and the women who quietly shaped our lives.

Growing up, we were surrounded by sarees that held far greater value than their silk, zari, or weave. Each saree carried a story. A treasured wedding saree worn decades ago. A silk cotton lovingly preserved for special occasions. A favourite drape brought out every festival season. These sarees were not simply possessions; they were heirlooms that connected one generation to the next.

“These sarees were not simply possessions; they were heirlooms that connected one generation to the next.”

As years passed, we noticed that many of these traditional designs were becoming increasingly difficult to find. Rare weaving techniques were disappearing. Vintage motifs were being simplified. Time-honoured colour combinations were giving way to mass production. The rich diversity of India’s weaving heritage was slowly fading from everyday wardrobes.

That realization became the foundation of Weaves by ADVAYA.

Founded by Dr. Barghavi R and Mrs. Meena R, a daughter-and-mother team from Bengaluru, Weaves by ADVAYA represents a shared commitment to preserving and celebrating India’s handloom traditions.

Our journey began not as a commercial venture, but as a search.

  • A search for authentic handwoven sarees.
  • A search for forgotten motifs and rare weaving techniques.
  • A search for master weavers who continue to uphold traditions passed down through generations.
  • Most importantly, a search for the stories woven into every saree.

“Our journey began not as a commercial venture, but as a search — for the stories woven into every saree.”

Today, we work directly with weaving communities and master artisans across India, bringing together collections that honour heritage while remaining relevant for the modern woman.

Every saree that becomes part of the ADVAYA collection is chosen with intention. We focus on authenticity, craftsmanship, cultural significance, and timeless beauty. From pure Kanchipuram silks and Thirubhuvanam weaves to silk cottons, heritage cottons, vintage recreations, and rare handloom treasures, every piece reflects our commitment to preserving the artistry of Indian textiles.

Many of our collections are inspired by historical designs, archival motifs, and traditional weaving practices that deserve to be remembered and celebrated. By working closely with artisans, we help keep these skills alive while supporting the communities that sustain them.

At Weaves by ADVAYA, we believe that every saree has a story.

  • The story of the weaver who spent days or weeks creating it.
  • The story of a craft that has survived for centuries.
  • The story of a woman who chooses to wear it.
  • And perhaps one day, the story of another generation that will inherit it.

Our vision extends beyond commerce. We aspire to create a living archive of India’s textile heritage — a place where traditional craftsmanship is valued, documented, and carried forward with pride.

This is why education is an important part of what we do. Through our conversations, collections, and storytelling, we strive to help people understand the richness of our weaving traditions, the significance of motifs, the complexity of techniques, and the extraordinary skill behind every handwoven saree.

“In a world of fast fashion and fleeting trends, we choose to celebrate permanence.”

We choose craftsmanship over convenience.

We choose heritage over imitation.

We choose stories over transactions.

The name “ADVAYA” reflects a philosophy of oneness — a connection between past and present, artisan and wearer, tradition and contemporary life.

Every saree we curate is part of that connection. Every collection is a tribute to the generations that came before us. And every customer who becomes part of our journey helps keep these traditions alive for generations yet to come.

Welcome to Weaves by ADVAYA.

Where every weave carries a story.

Where every saree honours a legacy.

Where heritage continues to live, one thread at a time.

The People Behind the Sarees

Meet the Founders

Mrs. Meena R

Proprietor & Co-Founder

Mrs. Meena R

I worked 38 long years in service — as a teacher, Vice Principal, Academic Director, and finally as a Student Counsellor.

As a teacher, I helped a small group of students. As Vice Principal, I started seeing both students and parents. When I worked as Academic Director, I realised that bookish knowledge alone is not sufficient for students. As a counsellor, I came to understand a wide range of problems — simple to complex — faced by teachers, students, parents, and heads of institutions. That gave me real satisfaction: knowing I had helped society in a meaningful way.

I truly missed my students, my school, the parents. But I am so deeply satisfied now with this new journey — doing something for the weavers, and through them, for society.

I feel blessed to continue my journey in a different zone. One where I may still help people find their way — and lead them to help themselves through their struggles.

What Drives Us

What We Stand For

Authenticity Above All

Every saree in our collection is authenticated — Silk Mark certified, sourced directly, and verified by hand before it reaches you.

Weaver Welfare

Direct sourcing means weavers receive fair compensation. We build long-term relationships with master craftspeople so that their skills remain economically viable.

Slow Craft

A Kanchipuram saree can take three weeks to weave. We believe that pace deserves to be honoured — not disrupted by seasonal trends or fast-fashion economics.

Heritage Preservation

We commission weaves in patterns that are disappearing from production. When you buy from us, you are participating in the preservation of a living art form.
